I am shaking over how BEAUTIFUL this is! 

Imagine how easy it would be to travel across the US with high-speed rail!

Imagine how many JOBS would be created!

Yeah, it would basically be manual labor, but that would put thousands of Americans back to work! 

MAKE THIS HAPPEN, AMERICA!

I have been saying this for years and still don’t understand why we are so very far behind in public transportation when this could create billions of jobs and make a greater and greener spread of tourism. Congress praises how the East Coast rail system brings it’s Reps and Senators to work, but what about your citizens from other parts of the country? The South? The Midwest?

Plus, the trains that do exist cost equal to or more than plane tickets and take double the time because many lines have shabbier technology than Europe and Japan.

Plus, the benefit of high speed trains in our country could cut so much exhaust forced into our atmosphere by not only airplanes, but the cars of individual people who want to see the country but don’t want the hassle of flying!

Make this high speed happen in America!!!

A friend of mine was saying that there are only a few miles of tracks in the US that would have to be completely redone in order for a high speed rail system to become a reality. Like a really ridiculously low amount considering the miles of track in the US. I’ve been on plenty of high speed Euro trains and it’s just perfection. I have no idea how the US can be so far behind in this respect?

The Acela SUCKKKKKS though. On a true high-speed rail it would take a little over an hour to get from NYC to Providence, my regular route. But the current Acela is only about a half hour less than the actual trip, which is usually 3.5 hours long. I always buy regular tickets ($80 roundtrip) because the regular trains are typically nicer. The Acela is rarely on time, still makes a million stops in Connecticut, is always cramped full with businessmen screaming on their cell phones, and costs double (or more) what the regular train costs, despite it being 2 h 45 or 3 h instead of 3 h 30. IT IS THE WORST. And it’s not true high-speed in the sense that Euro lines are. It doesn’t travel faster than a regular train. It’s supposed to travel at 150 mph but because it’s not on a high-speed line and has to deal with other train schedules, it rarely goes above 65. If that. It usually crawls. When it was first advertised they were saying “two hours round trip NYC to Boston!” and everyone was like OMG. That has literally never happened in the history of Acela. Zurich to Paris on the TGV took me less than four hours…a regular train would be 7+! That’s a difference I wouldn’t mind paying for.

Britain is the same! Mainland Europe is so far ahead, meanwhile Britian is suck far behind - I’ve travelled both regular train DC-NYC and Acela and the service is 1million times better than the trains in the UK.
